Biography

 

Juurakko was formed in 2011 and has performed together since 2012.

 

The vocalists of Juurakko (Kaartinen, Saarikorpi, Tammela, Wiksten) are professional musicians and music educators who have

worked together for over a decade developing their collective vocal timbre and musical style based on Afro-American tradition.

They all sing and play in various bands and projects, stretching from pop music via blues and jazz to ethnic and even classical music.

Kankaanranta performs on the kantele as a soloist and chamber musician, focusing on contemporary music and improvisation.

She completed her performer’s doctorate in 2009.
